As part of the 95th anniversary celebrations of SAUR, the company planted 50 fruit tree saplings in the yard of its factory in Panambi on the morning of June 28th, as a tribute to Mrs. Dorothea Saur (in memoriam), a pioneer in tree planting and gardens at the company, leaving a legacy of love and respect for the environment that continues to be carried forward by the company.
The saplings of bergamot, orange, jaboticaba, and pitanga trees were planted by the board of directors, employees who retired in 2021, and other guests.
Mrs. Dorothea was a great scholar of plants and had extensive knowledge about the most appropriate tree and flower species for the southern climate, planting times, and other care needed for plant development.
Miriam Saur Heusner, representing the fourth generation of the SAUR family, recalled the affection and dedication her grandmother always had for cultivating the trees and creating the company's gardens: “We are very happy to be here today carrying out this action, as a way of valuing what she did and what she taught us. We will always uphold what she created and continue sharing her knowledge with our employees and future generations of our family.”
At the end of the planting, employee Rosvita Freitas, who has been with the company for 39 years, installed a plaque naming the site Dorothea Saur Orchard. In her words, she recalled that Mrs. Dorothea did everything while respecting the ecosystem: "In all her plantings, she used organic fertilizer, natural pesticides, and diversified the plants so that the bees would have flowers to pollinate and produce honey."
Also on the 28th, trees were planted in the existing orchard at APAE, which was also an initiative of Mrs. Dorothea and continues to be preserved with great care by the organization. Participating in the action were the APAE administrative director, Gladis Camozzato, the school director Mirian Camilio, the president of the organization João Luis da Rosa Lima, the clinical coordinator and social worker Mirian Fagundes, the teacher Graciele de Moura and the students Jacó Widhauper and Adilso Arruda, as well as Cheila Araújo, Débora Alice Fürstenau and Monica Heinrichs, from SAUR.
João Luís, speaking on behalf of the organization, expressed his gratitude: "It is a pleasure to have already had SAUR's help to start the orchard, and now with this additional donation, we can only express our gratitude for being able to increase fruit productivity, and we are proud of this partnership."
Gladis Camozzato recalls Mrs. Dorothea's dedication when they began cultivating the fruit trees: "She oversees everything with great care, from choosing the location, the types of trees, the schedules and amount of water, and the timing of pruning. We are very grateful for what we have learned and received from her and the SAUR company."
In addition to APAE, AVOCAP, Lar de Idosos Tabea, Cruz Azul, and Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Maurício Cardoso also received fruit tree seedlings, which were planted during the month of June.
The initiative resulted in the planting of 95 fruit trees at SAUR and at institutions where SAUR has been a major partner over the years, representing one tree for each year of the company's existence.
Mrs. Dorothea's example served as the foundation for our company to expand its environmental initiatives, investing in a wastewater treatment plant, photovoltaic panels, a water reuse system, fertigation, selective waste collection, and awareness campaigns about the proper disposal of materials.
SAUR is pleased to pay this tribute to Mrs. Dorothea and feels honored by the participation of its retirees, guests, board members, and the organizations with which it has maintained a partnership for many years.
