Trucklift Lifting Platform optimizes maintenance at Expresso Embaixador

Keeping its bus fleet inspected through a strict preventive maintenance method is routine at the intercity bus company Expresso Embaixador, based in the city of Pelotas/RS.
The 147-strong bus fleet is serviced at the company's very shop, which requires swift, safe work. Given that need, the company faced limitations to perform the service, which was carried out by mechanics in ditches below the floor level. Through market research and referrals by other companies operating in the passenger transportation business, Expresso Embaixador contacted SAUR for equipment suitable to the company's needs.
The Trucklift Lifting Platform made by SAUR was the solution found to optimize the entire maintenance process. The equipment's advantages include the ability to adjust its height according to the mechanic's needs, a clean workplace, versatility, increased productivity, and keeping the mechanic in full view, in addition to the ability to change the layout and work in natural light.
According to engineer Ricardo Almeida Cepeda, Expresso Embaixador maintenance superintendent, before Trucklift, the greatest problem was how long it took to perform corrective or preventive maintenance, as well as the inability to carry out some tasks owing to the use of the ditch. "The workplace was unsuitable, the area was small, dark, and lacking the proper ergonomics and safety for workers," he added.
Using the Trucklift Platform since 2010, the company has achieved process improvements and time gains. "The equipment is very convenient and efficient, and has considerably expedited preventive maintenance activities, which are entirely carried out using the equipment. Other considerations to be highlighted include how easy it is to move around the equipment and the ability to change its layout according to future needs," he emphasized.
According to Marcio Koch, SAUR sales manager, one feature that should be highlighted about the Trucklift is safety, because the equipment does not go up when the load is excessive. A sensor detects when there is an obstruction as it is descending and the system stops, only allowing it to rise so the obstruction may be removed. In case a hose or pipe breaks or leaks, the system is halted by check valves connected directly to the hydraulic cylinders until the problem is solved. "These devices reduce the risk of accidents and mechanics and other personnel work more at ease and, consequently, faster," he noted.
As for versatility, the Trucklift Platform model is fitted with IP-55 protection that makes it possible to use it in outdoor and washing areas (not submerged). The equipment may also be used to load and unload heavy vehicles, lifting in assembly lines, repair shops, and for exhibits at fairs.
In addition to the Trucklift Platform, another model sold by SAUR is the Vertical Trucklift, which is now being manufactured in its standalone version, that is, it does not need to be permanently connected to some power supply. It keeps running long enough to perform about 25 lifts.
This model also features wireless communication for control and operation, that is, no wires are interconnected between the columns. However, the columns may be operated individually or in sets of 2 to 4, which are self-monitored.
In case a column goes off level, the system immediately interrupts the lift, which allows the lift to be halted and/or go on manually. When the Trucklift is stopped in its work position, it is hydraulically and mechanically locked in place, which makes its use additionally safe.
