Fork Clamp with Rotating Forks – Turnink Fork, versatility in handling different types of cargo
Making the process of moving tyres simpler and safer was amongst the principal need of the company FATE S.A.I.C.I, in the city of San Fernando, located in the metropolitan region of Buenos Aries in Argentina.
A manufacturer of a wide range of tyres for cars, vans, trucks, buses and tractors, the company had encountered difficulties in handling the different tyre sizes, making moving them slow.
To resolve the problem, the ideal would be equipment capable of transporting all of the tyre models safely and quickly. So the company sought from SAUR, the national leader in the production of equipment for forklifts, a Fork Clamp with Rotating Forks, that could move palettes bearing tyres using the forks in their horizontal position, and when necessary despatch single tyres, generally the heavier ones, with the forks positioned vertically (Clamp position).
This is a fork clamp that was designed to provide versatility in the transport of the widest range of loads, as its type of construction allows for the handling of palettes, cylindrical products, crates and bales. The hydraulic rotation of the forks from 0 through to 90 degrees allows the forks to be stopped at any position, to adapt to the load and provide greater safety in operation.
Previously the movement was carried out manually by one or two people, or even by the forks of the forklift which when they contacted the central opening of the tyres, damaged the product. Additionally they were of low productivity and high cost, due to damaged products, ergonomic risks and accidents.
Even with these being standard equipment produced by SAUR, for this application, it was necessary to customize the length of the arms/forks, which came to 1200 mm so that they could carry tyres of up to 2000mm in diameter.
According to Eduardo Pisani, responsible for the warehouse, the gains that deserve to be highlighted with the use of Fork Clamps with Rotating Forks are the reduction in operating time, reduction in accidents, increase in safety, greater productivity and adaptability. "In summary, we were seeking an efficient, simple and multiple solution, and we found it all at SAUR in one piece of equipment".
SAUR's business manager, Oliver Schmitt' adds that the equipment revolutionized how work is done with a forklift: "Allowing the movement of the forks in the horizontal position and in the vertical through the flow of hydraulic fluid and cylinders, as well as positioning them outside the width of the forklift using horizontal guides on the fork supports of the forklift. Thus allowing the loading and movement of innumerable types of loads."
With this acquisition there has been an increase in productivity, making the intra-logistics of the tyres more efficient.
